Art Projects and Activities for the Kids to Enjoy at Home This Summer

School may be out for the summer but that doesn’t mean the learning has to stop! Taking a stroll through your favorite museum or learning a new art technique might be your go-to during the summer months to keep the kids busy, but that doesn’t have to change as we continue to adhere to social distancing policies. Many of Orange Counties’ favorite museums and community centers are offering fun activities through virtual lessons, kids art projects, and tours to keep the creativity alive from the comfort of your own home. From family fun at home to resources and community information, the City of Irvine website has everything you need to stay connected. Keep scrolling to see a few of our favorite fun art activities that will keep the kids crafting in the month of July. 

Family Art Time: Beach Day 

Where to register: City of Irving – Painting a Beach Day
When: July 18th, at 10:00am
Price: $18

Who doesn’t love a day at the beach? Learn how to craft your perfect beach trip with an easy to follow virtual painting lesson. This virtual lesson comes with one kit with enough art supplies for two people, additional kits are sold for $6. Register online by July 15th at 12:00 pm. For social distancing purposes supply kits will be available for curbside pick-up July 16th-17th. 

Family Art Time: Floating Aquarium

Where to register: City of Irvine – Crafting a Floating Aquarium
When: July 25th, at 10:00am
Price: $18

Enjoy the creatures of the sea by creating your very own floating aquarium! Keep the kids busy with a little ocean fun at home and only a handful of simple materials! Registration begins July 13th and closes July 22nd. For social distancing purposes supply kits will be available for curbside pick-up July 23-24th. 

Bowers Kidseum at Home

Where: Bowers Museum

Price: Free

Explore the best of the Bowers Museum with weekly downloadable lessons and project ideas for kids. Each easy DIY craft project focuses on one various fine art and culture exhibits. With activities spanning from navigation charts to coffee watercolor landscapes, each art and craft lesson is made with various age ranges in mind.

Price: Free

Learn about art history through fun interactive lessons, at-home DIY projects, and an immersive website built to make learning fun for kids! The #metkids is built by kids for kids with maps, videos, and even a time machine! Check out the weekly blog for project ideas for the little ones to learn current events in a creative way.
