Irvine’s Neighbors: Newport Beach

One of the best parts of living in a new neighborhood: new neighbors! Irvine is smack dab in the middle of one of the most vibrant and exciting counties in the country, and our OC neighbors have a lot to offer if you’re willing to take a bit of a journey. Newport Beach, our friends to the West, supply oceanside views, amazing coastal dining, and all manner of beach fun! Head out to Newport for some California Dreaming.

The Sun and the Sand

Newport Beach is best known for, well, the beach! With the largest recreational harbor on the West coast, the beach activities are nearly endless. Between Newport Pier and the Santa Ana River, surfers can find world-class swells. The tip of the Balboa Peninsula offers top shelf bodyboarding. And of course, Newport Beach is a popular destination for swimmers and families who just love to splash around in the turf!

Newport Beach is also a terrific place to go for other watersports like sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, jetskiing, and more. Several yacht clubs along the marina hold boat races throughout the summer that bring speed and excitement. For the fishermen in your life, Newport Pier and Balboa Pier are the perfect places to drop a line and reel in the big one! And in the winter, you won’t want to miss the world famous Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade.

Beach Eats

Along with fun in the sun, Newport Beach is packed to the gills with delicious dining options to fit every budget and palate. For special occasions, you can’t beat the upscale ambiance and oceanfront views of Mastro’s Ocean Club. Folks looking for the ultimate seaside cafe experience can warm their toes in the sand with a cocktail in their hand at The Beachcomber Cafe.   Of course being a harbor town, Newport Beach has some amazing seafood options. Belly up to a savory lobster roll or a shrimp po’ boy sandwich at Hook & Anchor.

Pets and Purchases

Along with relaxing on the beach or riding the waves, Newport Beach offers top tier shopping. Get into a shopping frenzy at Fashion Island, a giant mall anchored by Macy’s, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, and Nieman Marcus. There are more than 175 shops and services at Fashion Island, so it is truly a one-stop shopping experience! If you’re looking for a more niche shopping experience, Newport Beach has some interesting beach town finds that will present unique gifts and souvenirs. Check out The Mermaid Store for all your mermaid needs. And get outfitted with all you need to hit the waves at Main Street Surf.

For the pet lovers out there, Newport Beach is a heavenly place. There are tons of   restaurants, including Pizzeria Mozza, Sancho’s Tacos, Dory Deli, and more! While dogs aren’t allowed on the beaches during peak hours, you can still take your leashed buddy out for an evening stroll or a morning jog in the waves. Your pooch will love the fresh air and wildlife of the sea!
